Building flexibility into expectations for course participation, assignment deadlines, and other aspects of course design is a key equitable teaching practice, afterall, we want all of our students to be successful in class. Far from coddling or catering to student whims, intentional flexibility in course design reduces anxiety, increases student agency, expands modalities for participation, minimizes grade complaints, and offers numerous other benefits for both students and instructors. Bring your most pressing questions, ideas and strategies to share, course materials to workshop with your fellow education leaders, and anything else you’d like to discuss.
