Foundations for Equitable & Inclusive Teaching

Examining one’s own social identity development lays groundwork for authentically preparing to teach equitably and inclusively. Through guided self-reflection and group activities, this workshop explores how our identities impact our roles as educators and examines ways that social identity threat and other forms of bias negatively impact students. This workshop focuses on creating space for critical reflection and developing and practicing proactive strategies for equitable, inclusive teaching.

Interrupting Bias in Course Design

This workshop explores how various forms of bias impact course design, and helps instructors develop skills to interrupt bias when articulating learning objectives, selecting and delivering course content, planning and implementing in-class activities, and designing assessments.

Canvas Foundations for Faculty: Part 1

August 31, 2021 (Tu) 10-11:30 AM

Learn the basics of UCLA’s new LMS, Canvas. LMS program trainers will introduce the Canvas dashboard, tour course settings, and share organization methods using the home page and modules. You will learn how to organize your course, send communications, and assess student work through demonstrations and discussions.

Canvas sessions are offered by the LMS Transformation Team.

Student Affairs Infrastructure to Support  Students and Faculty in the Classroom

Ready for a deeper dive into Canvas assignments and grades? LMS program instructional designers will demonstrate how to manage assignments, quizzes, and discussions with Speedgrader. You will learn how to view and edit grades using Gradebook and send messages to students whose grades or submissions meet selection criteria. Discover course analytics, usage reports, and student logs.

  • Join CAT Staff to go on the hunt around campus at 1pm (by the Bruin Bear in Bruin Plaza, across from Ackerman Student Union and the John Wooden Sports and Recreation Center)
  • Or do the scavenger hunt on your own time and pace

  • Starting 4pm at the Luskin Conference Center

The space is an outdoor area and all UCLA return to campus COVID-19 protocols will be observed. We hope you will make a trek to campus on Thursday to join us for drinks and great conversations with fellow new faculty, Deans, and CAT Staff!
