Student Opportunities

CBL utilizes traditional methods for recruiting student employees and volunteers on campus. These methods include placing a notice on the work-study employment website, flyers, advertisements in the student newspaper, brochures, announcements at student group meetings, and word-of-mouth.

Also, many students enrolled in programs at the Center for Community Learning (CCL) are placed in CBL programs to fulfill internship requirements and to participate in experiential learning.

CBL has well established relationships with several student-initiated community service and outreach organizations. CBL is always open to improving current methods and to expanding its reach in order to draw from a greater portion of the UCLA student population.

CBL differs from other service learning opportunities at UCLA in that students are paid for their work and in most cases they do not gain course credit. However, the opportunities available are similar in that CBL’s intention is to equally benefit the student provider and the recipient of the service. The length of student engagement also differentiates CBL from other service opportunities. Because building relationships and trust with youth participants and community organizations takes a great deal of time, CBL prefers to employ individuals who can commit for an entire academic year and a specified number of hours each week.
