Adrienne Lavine, Ph.D., is the Special Assistant to the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning for the Holistic Evaluation of Teaching (HET) Initiative at the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center.
She was a professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering for 40 years, teaching and conducting heat transfer research. She served as Associate Vice Provost in the Center for the Advancement of Teaching from July 1, 2017 to September 30, 2022. Adrienne was chair of the Academic Senate and chair of her department. She was also the Director of Education and Outreach for the NSF-sponsored Center for Scalable and Integrated Nano-Manufacturing and directed the Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Scholars Program. She received the Henry and Susan Samueli Teaching Award in her department and is the co-author of an internationally respected heat transfer textbook.
Adrienne earned a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Brown University and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. She retired as of July 2024 after 40 years at UCLA, and has been recalled to co-lead her labor of love, the Holistic Evaluation of Teaching initiative. Adrienne has been married for 42 years and has two adventurous children.
