Amy Liu

Research Associate

Amy Liu, Ph.D., is a Research Associate at the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center. She supports program staff, faculty, and department leadership with developing and implementing assessment strategies.

With two decades of higher education research experience, Amy is a qualitative researcher whose work centers equity and inclusion in teaching and learning. Her assessment research has included projects related undergraduate and community-engaged research education, learner-led design, holistic evaluation of teaching, STEM teacher recruitment, diversity initiatives, and career exploration. She has also been an adjunct instructor in the School of Education & Information Studies teaching a course on social theories in higher education. Prior to joining the TLC, she was co-editor of InterActions: UCLA Journal of Education and Information Studies and a research analyst with the Higher Education Research Institute. Amy’s work has been published in various outlets including the Journal of Higher Education, Journal of College Admission, Berkeley Review of Education, Research in Science & Technological Education, Higher Education, and InterActions.

Amy holds EdM and MPhil degrees in Education from Harvard University and the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA. She approaches her research work and understanding of social group experiences from asset-based and critical theory perspectives. She is a low-tech gal who loves to eat and binge shows.
