Lisa B. Felipe, Ph.D., is the Director of Teaching and Learning in Humanities for the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center, where she develops and leads professional learning programs, workshops, and communities of practice specifically tailored for Humanities Instruction.
Lisa is an educator with a combined twenty years experience in teaching and developing equity-centered educational development programs to support instructors in the humanities and beyond. Before joining the TLC, she was the inaugural director of the Excellence in Pedagogy and Innovative Classrooms (EPIC), a multi-million dollar grant initiative based in the Humanities Division at UCLA with the goal of advancing innovative and inclusive teaching. As director, she oversaw the daily operations of EPIC, developing and managing a collection of equity-centered instructional support and pedagogical research grant programs. She has developed and facilitated several cross-disciplinary workshops for faculty and TAs, often in collaboration with teaching and learning units across campus.
Alongside her educational development work, she has also taught courses on literature, film, gender and race in popular culture, and rhetoric; and has conducted research on Asian American and Pacific Rim transnational film and literature, affect studies, and SoTL. As an advocate for historically underserved students in higher education, her passion lies in helping instructors create and foster inclusive and equitable learning spaces for all students. Lisa has a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UCLA and a bachelor’s degree from Occidental College.
