Student FAQs

Your opinions matter! As instructors and TAs strive to provide you with helpful feedback on your work, this is your opportunity to do the same for them by providing feedback on your experiences in the classroom. This page includes the most commonly asked questions about SETs by students.

FAQs

  • What is Student Experiences of Teaching (SET)?

Student Experiences of Teaching (SET) surveys allow students to provide instructors with feedback about their learning experiences in a particular course. SETs are anonymous and confidential. Instructors cannot see the results of your feedback until after they submit final grades.

  • Why should I complete SET surveys?

    • Completing the survey can help you understand what you have learned and how you have learned it.
    • It is your way to give your instructors and TAs feedback.

  • How do I make my voice heard?

    • Be candid, constructive, and provide as much detail as possible.
    • Your feedback should provide helpful comments about the course and the instructional methods. Tailor comments to focus on elements that helped or hindered your ability to learn course material and/or meet course objectives.
    • Provide useful information on what’s working well and aspects that could use improvement. Share suggestions and potential solutions for challenges you encountered in the course.
    • While most instructors and TAs have control over the components of their courses, there may be instances where other factors may be influencing the course content and teaching methods employed. Therefore consider the role of the person you are providing feedback to in order to provide more useful and actionable responses.

  • Who do I complete SETs for?

You will be able to complete a SET for instructors and TAs quarterly.

  • How do I access my SET surveys?

Starting Fall 2024, UCLA will begin the transition from Class Climate (via MyUCLA) to Blue by Explorance (via Bruin Learn). During this transition, courses will be evaluated on both MyUCLA and Blue.

You should receive an email directing you how to access your SET surveys. That will provide you with direct links to complete the forms. You can also access them directly.

  • When is the deadline to fill out the surveys?

Not all surveys begin and end on the same day — check the start and end dates on your SET survey page. For most students, surveys begin at 8:00 a.m. on the Tuesday of Week 9 and are available for 11 days, ending at 8:00 a.m. on the Saturday before the week of Finals. Please see the SET Survey Schedule for specific dates.

  • What if I miss the deadline to fill out the surveys?

Unfortunately, no surveys may be filled out after the survey deadline has passed.

  • What if I make a mistake filling out the survey? Can it be corrected or taken back?

It is not possible to change or retract a survey once it is submitted. We are unable to edit or remove submissions.
