On Thursday, October 16, the Teaching and Learning Center Student Experiences of Teaching shared this message via BruinPost
Dear Instructors:
We are reaching out to share that this quarter, all UCLA Student Experiences of Teaching (SET) surveys will be fully transitioned to Blue, our new platform. Information about this transition was shared in a Bruin Post from Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning Erin Sanders O’Leary last Fall. Below are key updates regarding the process and important changes to note.
Survey Invitations and Access
- Instructors will receive an automated email from the TLC SET program with a link to monitor response rates for their course on Blue.
- The link can also be accessed through the course website on Bruin Learn.
- Instructors can see the percentage of students who have completed the survey for each course that they are teaching, but they will not be able to see individual completion information.
- Students will receive automated email invitations and reminders from the TLC SET program with instructions for completing their surveys on Blue. They can access their surveys via Bruin Learn.
Survey Reports and Access
- Instructors and teaching assistants can access their individual reports after the survey period is closed and one to two days after final grades have been submitted.
- An automated email from the TLC SET program will be sent with a link to view your survey report on Blue once they are available.
Gradebook Integration
- Some instructors offer participation points for completing SET surveys. While Blue is not yet integrated with Gradebook, we are working with the Bruin Learn Center of Excellence (CoE) to add this functionality.
- If instructors plan to offer credit for individual survey completion, please complete the SET Participation Roster Request Form. Once the survey period ends, we will provide a report indicating which students have completed their surveys.
- To maintain student anonymity, reports will only be provided if there are at least 10 responses. Reports will indicate completion status only — all responses will remain anonymous.
To encourage participation, consider offering participation points or extra credit if the entire class meets or exceeds a target response rate. Instructors can monitor response rates at any time through their Blue dashboard.
