On Wednesday, April 1, Erin Sanders O’Leary, Inaugural Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning, Kem Saichaie, Executive Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, and Rachel Kennison, Executive Director, Center for Education Innovation & Learning in the Sciences (CEILS), shared this message via Bruin Post.
This year’s annual UCLA Summer Institute on Evidence-Based Teaching will be co-facilitated by the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and the Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences (CEILS). All UCLA instructors of record are invited to apply for this professional learning opportunity, which takes place on campus from July 13-16, 2026. Teams of instructors from the same department or academic program are encouraged to attend and will work together with an assigned facilitator.
During this immersive four-day in-person experience, instructors collaborate in small groups to design a “teachable tidbit,” a brief course module with engaging activities and aligned assessments to meet a course’s learning objectives. The product of this team effort relies on evidence-based principles of effective and inclusive teaching and the enabling technologies when appropriate. Eligible instructors selected to participate will receive $500, payable to a research or professional development fund, and a certificate of completion.
