On Friday, April 4, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning Erin Sanders O’Leary and Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences Executive Director Rachel Kennison shared this message via Bruin Post
This year’s annual UCLA Summer Institute on Evidence-based Teaching will be co-facilitated by the Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences (CEILS) and the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC). All UCLA instructors of record are invited to apply for this professional learning opportunity, which takes place on campus from July 14-17, 2025. Teams of instructors from the same department or academic program are encouraged to attend together and will work together with an assigned facilitator.
During this immersive four-day in-person experience, instructors work together in small groups to design a “teachable tidbit”, which is a lesson plan for a lecture or course module that starts with learning objectives and builds to include aligned assessments and learning activities. The product of this team effort relies on evidence-based principles of effective and inclusive teaching. Instructors selected to participate will receive $500, payable to a research or professional development fund, and a certificate of completion.

Interested instructors are also invited to attend one of two information sessions on Zoom during the second week of April or contact CEILS Senior Associate Director, Jess Gregg. Applications are open through May 2.
