Karen is an Associate Instructional Designer at the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center where she develops innovative, equity-minded, and accessible on-campus, online, and hybrid courses in close collaboration with instructors, campus partners, and departments.
Karen has over 20 years of experience in faculty and curriculum development, online teaching, and educational technology integration across both community college and university settings. She has mentored faculty in Universal Design for Learning, accessibility, Canvas optimization, culturally- responsive teaching, educational technology adoption, and multimedia integration. She is also an adjunct professor and Peer Online Course Reviewer (POCR) at LA Pierce College and West LA College, where she teaches a variety of sociology courses. Her research focuses on accessibility, developing interactive online courses, and making student’s educational experiences rewarding and fun.
Karen has a B.A. in Deaf studies and an M.A. in Sociology from California State University, Northridge. Karen is completing her M.S. in Instructional Science and Technology from California State University, Monterey Bay. Karen is a Los Angeles native, first-generation college student, and a child of immigrant parents. When she is not working, she loves to play with her kids, hang out with her husband, read, and paint as much as possible.
