Faculty Fellows Program Requirements & Application

Program Expectations

The Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows Program consists of the following requirements:

The Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows Program kicks off with a one-day event held on campus September 18, 2025. During the event, Fellows will work alongside TLC and DaD staff and subject matter experts from UCLA and beyond to align course learning objectives with DaD values and to develop learning activities and assessments appropriate for their instructional and disciplinary context.

Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows will meet once per month during the 2025-26 academic year in a facilitated discussion to strengthen connections among instructors in the learning community, build skills, share progress, and consider potential challenges with curriculum development and implementation of DaD values in their courses. All meetings will occur on the first Friday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., barring holidays or university closures.

The dates for the monthly Community of Practice meetings in the 2025-26 academic year are:

October 3, 2025
November 7, 2025
December 5, 2025
January 9, 2026*
February 6, 2026
March 6, 2026
April 10, 2026*
May 1, 2026

*second Friday of the month

Each Faculty Fellow will be placed in a “pod,” or a small group of two to four members of the cohort. Pods provide an informal opportunity between Community of Practice meetings for Fellows to build community, troubleshoot classroom dynamics, peer review syllabi and learning artifacts, and share ideas.

A culminating experience for Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows is an on-campus celebration and debrief event during June 2026. The purpose is to provide fellows with an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned, consider concrete revisions for future offerings of their courses, and share their expertise and insights with the previous and next Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellow cohorts, who will be invited to join this celebratory event.

In-person attendance is required for all faculty fellows

To support dialogue and community-building among the cohort, in-person attendance is required for all Faculty Fellows events. If you foresee that you will be unable to attend these events in person and/or will miss more than one Community of Practice dates listed above, we encourage you to apply for the program in a future year.

Program Deliverables

Deliverables expected from participation in the program include:

  1. Facilitate or co-facilitate at least one Community of Practice discussion. This might include, but is not limited to, sharing a course resource or activity you employ to support dialogue, facilitating a conversation about a reading or case study, or demonstrating a facilitation skill.
  2. A new or revised syllabus. Create or update a course syllabus to establish the context and tone for dialogue.
  3. One classroom learning artifact. A student-facing activity, resource, or other material documenting your integration of meaningful tools in the classroom to foster an environment where open dialogue thrives.
  4. A 1-2 page individual reflection. A reflection of your learning and/or questions that emerged for you during the program.
  5. Contribute to a collaborative resource bank. Materials that might support members of the broader UCLA community in fostering productive and transformative dialogue.
  6.

Recognition

Instructors selected as Faculty Fellows each will receive $3,500 to support participation in the year-long program, payable to a research fund or professional development fund. During the 2026 Summer Celebration & Debrief Event, Faculty Fellows will receive a certificate of completion for inclusion in their professional dossier.

Eligibility

The Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows program is open to all instructors of record. Priority will be given to instructors in a position to sustain and deepen UCLA’s commitment to dialogue across difference. This may include, but is not limited to, continuing to teach the course developed or revised in this program or serving as a mentor for other instructors and colleagues engaged in similar curricular efforts.

We welcome applications from all areas of the undergraduate, graduate, and professional curriculum. We also encourage instructors who are co-teaching a course to apply. Please indicate your partner(s) on your application, but submit separate applications. Instructors are encouraged to think creatively about how DaD values can be leveraged to support the (re)development of a variety of courses, including those that satisfy UCLA’s college/school diversity requirements for undergraduate students.
