HET in Action: An Example
When an instructor comes up for review, they’re given a blank copy of their department’s HET document, which contains rubrics to prepare for the evaluator. The instructor goes through the practices listed on the rubrics and either (i) writes a sentence or two on the rubric, describing what the practice looks like in their teaching or (ii) links to a document that illustrates the practice. This way, the evaluator knows exactly how to evaluate each practice.
When the evaluator receives the rubrics, they review what the instructor wrote and the documents they linked to. This gives them a robust picture of the instructor’s teaching and allows them to write a well-informed, detailed letter.
Below is an actual example of a HET document with filled-out rubrics.
