Quick Links for Academic Leadership
Programs, resources, and services to support UCLA’s academic Leadership.
The UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) elevates our university’s commitment to pedagogical innovation and cutting-edge instructional support through a variety of resources, services, and collaborative engagement opportunities. Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, Erin Sanders O’Leary, meets regularly with Deans, members of the Academic Senate, and other academic leaders to ensure the TLC resources are meeting the needs of our campus instructional community.
We deliver professional programs tailored to our instructional community, from individuals to entire academic departments, that advance innovative teaching approaches and an enduring commitment to student success. Additionally, we collaborate with academic departments on assessing student experiences of teaching to enhance the learning process, as well as help departments navigate training requirements for teaching assistants. Through our longer-term engagements, such as year-long communities of practice and various pilot initiatives, we work with campus partners to champion technology-enhanced, student-centered, and accessible teaching at UCLA
Programs
Dialogue across Difference Faculty Fellows Program
The TLC has partnered with the Dialogue across Difference (DaD) Initiative to support instructors as they equip students with the tools to engage in complex conversations across differences in lived experience, cultural background, and perspective.
Distinguished Teaching Awards
These awards are UCLA’s highest recognition for teaching excellence and honor recipients under three classifications: senate faculty, non-senate faculty, and teaching assistants.
Holistic Evaluation of Teaching Initiative
This initiative is intended to help departments improve the way they evaluate teaching and help faculty implement excellent teaching practices while assisting instructors in showcasing their teaching expertise and new pedagogical approaches. HET is a way to think about and document teaching using self-reflection, student input, and peer review.
Special Initiatives
The Teaching and Learning Center supports various special initiatives and pilot programs advancing educational innovation at UCLA. With ongoing projects enhancing teaching and learning’s connections to Generative AI, digital accessibility, and more, these programs are just a few of the many projects to elevate how we teach on our campus.
TA Training
The TLC helps graduate students and departments navigate TA training requirements set by UCLA’s Graduate Council, which include enrollment in a 495 pedagogy course to satisfy basic pedagogy training and discipline-based training, and completion of Professional Standards and Ethics Training (PSET).
