How to use the Survey Data

The interactive dashboards below provide a snapshot of the UCLA Senior Survey results where users can explore data across key dimensions of the undergraduate experience. These high-level, aggregated findings provide broad insights into graduating seniors’ reported post-graduation plans, degree aspirations, job function categories, and major satisfaction ratings. Data are summarized at the school or institutional level to ensure accessibility and confidentiality.

When interpreting the pages, viewers should focus first on proportions rather than the raw counts, as the percentages indicate the relative distribution of outcomes (e.g., full-time employment vs. graduate school, or Business & Management vs. STEM roles). For instance, the “Immediate Degree Aspirations” view distinguishes between students planning to enroll immediately and those with future plans, which reflects intent rather than confirmed enrollment. Similarly, “Job Function” represents broad career fields not specific employers or job titles. These distributions can be used to understand overall trends and dominant pathways rather than individual outcomes. For the “Major Satisfaction” dashboard, interpret mean scores (out of 4) alongside the distribution of dissatisfaction and satisfaction percentages. Small differences in averages (e.g., 3.15 vs. 3.23) can signal meaningful variation when response counts are large. Note areas with comparatively lower ratings (such as course access) to identify potential structural constraints, and higher-rated dimensions (such as TA support) to identify strengths.

These pages are best used for trend analysis, program reflection, and strategic planning rather than for evaluating individual instructors or making causal claims about outcomes.

Major Satisfaction

This section summarizes student ratings of their satisfaction with different aspects of their major, including faculty and TA interactions, community and inclusivity, and course access.

Satisfaction was rated on a scale of 1 – Very Dissatisfied; 2 – Dissatisfied; 3 – Satisfied; 4 – Very Satisfied.

Post-Graduation Plans

This section summarizes students’ primary employment-related outcomes following graduation. Students are grouped by broad post-graduation categories, including employment, graduate or professional school, further education, service activities, and other personal plans. Employment and graduate or professional school outcomes are further classified by full-time and part-time status.

Job Function

This section describes the primary job functions graduates expect to perform in their post-graduation roles. Job functions represent the general type of work or occupational focus associated with students’ reported employment plans. Results highlight the distribution of graduates across broad career fields.

Immediate Degree Aspiration

This section summarizes the academic and professional degrees students plan to pursue immediately after graduation. These immediate aspirations include two primary degree pathways that students intend to begin directly following completion of their undergraduate studies. The degrees may include graduate, professional, or credential programs and reflect students’ near-term educational plans rather than confirmed enrollment.

Reporting

Interactive dashboards are developed for each participating college and school. Results are also available by division and field for all major and minor programs with at least 10 survey respondents.

These dashboards are shared with members of the UCLA community, including deans and department chairs, the Academic Senate, Faculty Executive Committees, and the Undergraduate Council. The interactive format allows faculty, staff, and administrators to explore results dynamically, compare trends across units, and examine data in greater depth. These insights support ongoing academic program review, evidence-based decision-making, and continuous improvement across campus.
