Jessica Young is a postdoctoral scholar in the Pedagogical Research and Scholarly Teaching unit where she collaborates with the Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning to advance action research, discipline-based education research (DBER), the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and interdisciplinary research in the learning sciences.
Jessica was previously an NSF postdoctoral fellow at Portland State University where her work focused on applying and adapting motivational theories to STEM contexts. Prior to that, she earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry and holds a certificate in Program Evaluation. Her work investigated the intersection of pedagogical innovation, AI literacy, and belonging in undergraduate chemistry education.
While getting her Ph.D., Jessica had fun teaching various chemistry classes including informational literacy in chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, general chemistry lab, and others. Her hobbies include beach volleyball, mountain biking, puzzling, and her two little pets: a cat and dog.
