This interactive workshop and discussion hosted by TLC staff situates equitable teaching practices as the foundation for building a classroom culture of belonging and shared ownership that helps students from all backgrounds and skill levels succeed. Together, we will explore UCLA’s specific teaching context and student population, and practice revising sample course materials to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment from the very first day of class. Participants will be introduced to the Student Experience Project’s First Day Toolkit–a FREE evidence-based resource for equitable course design–and will leave with actionable steps for revising their own first day practices to enhance equity and belonging. This event is co-sponsored by the Division of Social Sciences but open to all faculty. Space is limited and lunch will be provided!
