Realizing a More Inclusive Pedagogy: Race, Identity, and Engagement in a Diverse College Classroom

November 21, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Please join us on Thursday, November 21st, 4:00pm-6:00pm in Powell 186 for an Inclusive Gathering: Realizing a More Inclusive Pedagogy: Race, Identity, and Engagement in a Diverse College Classroom with Frank Tuitt.

This session will examine theories/concepts that are both relevant and practical with regard to creating inclusive learning environments for all students. Specific session objectives include: 1) To help participants enhance their understanding of how personal identity characteristics can influence teaching and learning in racially diverse classrooms. 2) To identify a range of teaching-learning strategies that will enable instructors to move from theory to practice and promote inclusive learning environments in their classrooms.

The mission of EPIC Inclusive Gatherings is to provide an open space for professors to learn about issues of inclusivity and their related best pedagogical practices. After a brief talk by an invited speaker, we will participate in an open, productive and constructive conversation related to the specific topic connected to inclusivity.

“Inclusive Gatherings” is a Teaching Innovation Grant project inspired by the Seminar in Teaching Excellence (STE): Inclusive Classrooms and it is led by Professors Jimena Rodriguez, Carla Suhr and Stephen “Kip” Tobin.
